The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
